Pam Harding

Many of you will have already heard the sad news of the passing of Pam Harding over the recent Bank Holiday Weekend, following a brave battle with cancer.

For those who may not know; Pam, late husband Gerry and their family joined our club in the late eighties, taking part in many of the Club’s social rides and summer tours. After a few years Pam decided she wanted to take on a more active role in the running of the club and volunteered herself for timekeeping duties in support of Brenda Hall at our Tuesday evening events.  Pam was recently awarded honorary life membership of the club in recognition of time that she has put into supporting these events and many Tuesday night regulars will struggle to remember a time when Pam was not there timing their efforts, such was her dedication to this duty.

Through her years with the club, Pam has made a great many friends both young and old and has seen and encouraged many young riders through their development.  Amongst them our very own Pro-Tour Professional Alex Dowsett who would have been little more than 12 years old the first time he rolled up at a Time Trial start to be set off by Pam towards Bradwell.

It was without saying that Pam will be greatly missed by all those who knew her, not just within our club, but also by her friends outside of the club. No one will miss Pam more than her Children and Grandchildren, and all of us at the Maldon and District Cycling Club would like to take this opportunity to send our sincerest condolences to all of the Harding Family at this sad time.

There will be a service to celebrate the life of Pam at St Andrews Church, Althorne on Wednesday 22nd June at 11:00am and anyone from the club is welcome to attend.
