The Maldon Cycling Club 50 mile spring reliability ride took place on a windy but warm day with a record 35 starters. The SW 20m/hr cross wind made it a challenging day for all looping up through Terling and Rayne with some of the more leisurely riders stopping for tea and a bacon sarnie at Rayne station.

By then the large 3.5hhr group had split up, with the wind taking its toll, with lots of smaller groups of riders on the road.

The route continued through Gosfield to the Cafe stop at Greensted Green Farm shop, where everyone congregated, with a few of the 5.5hr riders having taken the track option to the cafe.

Everyone refreshed, back through Stisted and the Coggeshall flatlands to Kelvedon and then over the final climb over Wickham Bishops, where everyone finished at the Saints Club hut to be met by Mary Hammond serving refreshments.

Well done to all, Medals will be awarded to club members at the Annual Club Awards Dinner in January. If you rode as a private entry, you still have time to join the club to gain your medal.

Special thanks to Mary for starting the riders and also doing the teas at the finish and signing them in.

Also I'm sure Alison won't mind me mentioning a thanks to Kerry Marsh, and Ken and Kay Driscoll for staying with Alison at the cafe until medical help arrived after she suffered a funny turn (her words!:). You will be glad to hear that after a brief spell in hospital she was back home that evening and feeling much better.

Look forward to seeing you all on the 75 miles Reliability on the 18th June.
